Compass doesn’t have its own lab; we work with the best
Investigative genetic genealogy cannot begin until a workable SNP DNA profile has been created from a sample of the remains of an unidentified missing person. Compass selects labs based on three important criteria:
Expertise
Not all samples are the same. Some of our lab partners have pioneered advanced techniques for extraction of DNA from challenging samples, while others have highly efficient pipelines for DNA sequencing from blood and bone.
Pricing
Compass has designed our case selection model specifically to take advantage of bulk pricing offered by our labs. By submitting a dozen or more cases at the same time, it’s more efficient for our case managers and the labs to process our case samples. And, as a non-profit, Compass qualifies for discounts that ensure we make the most of our donor-funded resources.
Timeline
Families of long-term missing people have waited too long for answers, so Compass look for labs that can get our case profiles into the hands of our researchers as quickly as possible. The sooner we can get to work, the sooner we can help our agency partners restore each identity and return them to their families and communities.

Resolve Forensics is an accredited forensic DNA laboratory with over 25 years of highly-specialized forensic DNA and biomedical scientific understanding. Resolve’s advanced DNA testing program is unique in its DNA testing capabilities, technologies, and bioinformatics, purpose-built for use in forensic genealogy casework. Specializing in challenging, degraded, and minimal DNA samples, Resolve provides SNP DNA testing and Investigative Genetic Genealogy (IGG) services to law enforcement, medical examiners, and investigative partners worldwide. Pioneers in the forensic genetic genealogy space, Resolve’s science team was the first in the world to request recognition of, and obtain ISO/IEC 17025 forensic accreditation for, whole genome sequencing SNP-DNA.
